Calling Mr. Prabakaran "the sole architect of this tragic incidence (Rajiv Gandhi's assassination)," Mr. Singh said "we can never forget this.'' He called upon "the Government of India to take all legal steps necessary to bring Mr. Prabakaran to justice in this case.'' Mr. Singh, who had earlier taken the lead in demanding that Rajiv Gandhi's assassins be brought to book, asserted that "Rajivji lives in the hearts and minds of millions and millions of Indians, who looked forward to his leading a resurgent India in the 21st century... Our dreams and hopes were cut short by the diabolical planning and brutal act of assassination. We cannot tolerate anybody making light of this unfortunate event.'' (Mr. Prabakaran said in his press conference that Rajiv Gandhi's assassination was "tragic" and refused to comment further saying the clemency pleas of the four sentenced to death in the case were pending in court). The Congress has already demanded that Mr. Prabakaran be extradited.
