SC stays U.P. notification

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI April 11. The Supreme Court today stayed a Uttar Pradesh Government notification for development of a light industry township near Taj Mahal in Agra in an area meant for development of green parks.

A three-Judge Bench comprising Justice M.B. Shah, Justice B.P. Singh and Justice H.K. Sema, in an interim order, said that the State Government would not take any further action with regard to the proposed industrial township on Shamshabad and Fathehbad areas near the Taj.

The Bench asked the U.P. Government to file its response in two weeks on the petitions relating to pollution in and around the Taj and alleged neglect of various places of cultural importance in Agra and Mathura districts.
