Alleged kidnapper arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI APRIL 12. A man allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a 15-year-old young man from Kanjhawala was arrested by the North-West Delhi police on April 8. In another incident, police claimed to have solved a murder case in Kanjhawala.

Acting on a tip-off that Sunil, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, could be involved in the kidnapping of Naveen, the police questioned him. Sunil confessed to have kidnapped the boy, who was later released following an intensive search launched by the police.

Sunil revealed that he along with his friends, Devender, and Narender, had planned to kidnap someone from good financial background so that they could get a handsome amount as ransom. They came to Majri village in search of their target. They met Naveen who was from a well-to-do family.

On February 22, while Naveen was going to Nahri village to get his roll number for Class Xth examinations, the three accused took him to a rented accommodation in Nithari village in Delhi on some pretext.

There one of the accused whipped out a country-made pistol and asked Naveen to be inside the house. The others went out and made a call to Naveen's parents demanding Rs. 10 lakhs as ransom. But later, suspecting that they would be caught as their cellular phone number had been traced, the three let Naveen go. Police said the search for the other two accused was on.

In another incident, the North-West Delhi police arrested Rajesh Kumar on the charge of murdering a driver, Raj Kumar, whose body was found dumped in a Maruti Van at Kanjhawala on February 8.

Police said they identified the deceased with the help of his identity card. Raj Kumar was employed as a driver with a businessman in Fatehpuri. Further investigations revealed that on the fateful day, three persons, other than Raj Kumar, were seen travelling in the van.

On April 6, the police received information that Rajesh, a resident if Haryana, who had committed a similar crime at Uttam Nagar in the recent past, could be involved in the incident. Rajesh was picked up for questioning. During interrogation, he broke down and confessed to have murdered Raj Kumar.

Rajesh revealed that he was basically into bootlegging and he required vehicles for the purpose. For that, he and his associates used to rob vehicles after hiring them from different travel agencies. On February 7, they hired a Maruti Van from Fatehpuri for Sonepat. On the way, the three asked the driver, Raj Kumar, to stop the van. They stabbed him and tried to flee with the vehicle. But to their misfortune, they could not start the van, following which they fled on foot.
