Eyewitnesses said that militants hurled grenades at a security picket outside the SMHS Hospital here around 11 a.m. A number of CRPF jawans were standing outside the picket and the grenades exploded injuring 13 of them. One of them, V.N. Bahadur of the 71st battalion died on the spot while Opendar Singh died of injuries in hospitals. The condition of three of the 11 injured jawans is said to be critical. Another grenade, thrown at the Shaheed police station, exploded on the road injuring a civilian Ghulam Mohammad. Meanwhile, a near-total bandh was observed in Srinagar and other major towns of the Kashmir valley to protest the Israeli occupation of Palestinian areas. The call was given by Harkat-e-Jehad and Al-Umar Mujahideen outfits. Police opened fire in the air to disperse a procession in Pulwama which was taken out after the Friday prayers. Syed Ali Geelani, who was leading a procession, was detained and later released.
Suicide attack on BSF camp
Our Jammu Correspondent writes: In a suicide attack by a group of militants on a BSF camp in Rajouri district today, three BSF jawans were injured and one militant was killed. Police sources said `fidayeens' (suicide squad) attacked a BSF camp at Ghaibas under the Dharmsal police station in Rajouri district at around 6 a.m. injuring three BSF jawans.
