By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR APRIL 12. A fisherman died in Gooty in the district today, allegedly after being beaten up severely by four policemen in mufti. He died of heart failure in his house after he escaped the police in fear.

According to reports, one Bestha Chinna Pullanna (45) had left his home in Bestha Veedhi to the main road for having tea around 3.30 am. On the way, four policemen in mufti stopped him and questioned him as to what he was doing at that time. The fisherman said that he was going to have tea.

But, the unconvinced policemen continued their questioning and charged him with running matka and selling illicit liquor. When Pullanna denied the charges the cops started beating him up with lathis. He succeeded in running away home after the severe thrashing. He told his wife, Laxmidevi, about the incident and collapsed while he trying to go to the terrace of the house.

He was immediately rushed to the Government hospital but was declared brought dead.
