Medical camp for tribals

VELLORE April 12. A 15-member team of doctors from the Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, will conduct a two-day medical camp in the forests of Erode/Salem/Coimbatore districts on April 20 and 21 for local tribals. A.M. Ikram, secretary, Indian Medical Association (IMA), CMC Vellore branch and organiser of the camp, said the camp was being organised in response to a request from R. Nataraj, Additional DGP, Special Task Force. He sought the IMA's help for conducting medical camps in the forests to enlist the cooperation of the local people for apprehending the forest brigand, Veerappan. Since the tribals suffered from various diseases, the STF wanted to help them by organising medical camps.

A camp was organised in the Erode forests on February 10 with the help of doctors from the CMC Hospital, Vellore.

The Apollo Hospitals team would reach Tirupur on April 20. They would be received by a team of IMA doctors led by the IMA State president-elect, A. Muruganandan, and taken to the undisclosed camp site by the STF personnel. Drugs worth Rs. 50,000 would be distributed to the patients at the camp on behalf of the IMA.
