The inquisition continues on the second biggest quadrennial sporting extravaganza on the planet. Questions: 1. Simple one to set the ball rolling. Who is the only man to captain and coach a World Cup winning team? 2. As we know, Brazil took the Jules Rimet Cup for keeps after its third triumph in 1970. The question is, where is the hallowed trophy now? 3. Who has the distinction of scoring the 1000th goal of the Finals and in which World Cup? 4. Age is just a number when you become the World champion. So, tell me, who is the youngest player to win the World Cup? 5. Which country's players got a Rolls Royce from their FA for every goal they netted? 6. This team got eliminated, from the 1998 and 1990 World Cup Finals, without losing a match! Name this unfortunate participant. 7. Why was Mexico banned from participating in the 1990 World Cup? 8. Goals and more goals. Which World Cup saw an average of 5.38 goals per match? 9. This German great, twice a runner-up, botched up his chances for a third attempt at glory, by writing that many of his teammates in the Bundesliga took drugs. He was never picked for the National squad again. Identify this controversial star. 10. Fifty six seconds to infamy _ that's the time an Uruguayan took as he became the fastest player to be shunted out of a match. Name him and the opposing side. 11. The great Ferenc Puskas has represented two countries in the World Cup. One is, of course, Hungary in 1954. Name the other. 12. Absolute trivia. How many countries have figured in the final stages of the competition since 1930. 13. Which World Cup winning legends had the nicknames Pelusa and The Bomber? 14. What is common to Holland, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Uruguay as regards the first World Cup? 15. The England-Argentina World Cup relationship has been anything but ordinary. In 1962, thanks to an innovation, Argentina experienced agony and England ecstasy. What innovation? Answers: 1. Franz Beckenbauer. `The Kaiser' (see picture) skippered West Germany to glory in 1974 and coached Germany to the Cup in 1990. 2. Nowhere! The statuette was stolen from the HQ of the Brazilian FA office on December 28, 1983 and probably melted down. 3. Holland's Rob Rensenbrink versus Scotland in the 1978 event in Argentina. 4. The incomparable Pele, who was only 17 when Brazil had its maiden triumph in 1958. 5. United Arab Emirates. Two players were lucky. 6. Italy. It, however, reached the 1994 final. 7. For misrepresentation of ages in a FIFA international youth tournament. 8. The 1954 Finals in Switzerland (140 goals in 26 matches). Truly a spectator's delight. 9. Harald Schumacher, the goaltender in the 1982 and 1986 Finals. 10. Jose Batista, against Scotland in 1986. 11. Spain in 1962. 12. 65 nations. 13. Diego Maradona (Argentina) and Gerd Mueller (West Germany). 14. They were the countries, which came forward to host the inaugural tourney. 15. The goal difference formula to determine group rankings. Prior to that, a play-off match was held in case of a tie in points. V.V. Ramanan
