The flamboyant opener smashed 108 off 92 balls with seven fours and eight sixes to help his side overhaul a modest New Zealand score of 213 for nine in just 31.3 overs. Pakistan rounded off its league games with nine points, including a bonus point for its faster scoring rate, from four matches and will take on Sri Lanka in the final on Wednesday. Pakistan began in aggressive fashion with Afridi and Imran Nazir putting the team on road to victory with a blazing 101-run stand for the opening wicket off 84 balls. Nazir contributed a brisk 57 off 53 balls before falling to Brooke Walker. Yousuf Youhana, who joined Afridi after the exit of Nazir, chipped in with 24 before becoming Walker's second victim. But Pakistan was never in trouble. Afridi started slowly, scoring his first eight runs in 26 balls before smashing the next 100 off just 66 balls. The opener was particularly harsh on Scott Styris, hitting the seamer for four sixes, three in one over. He completed his century, his third in 146 matches, in 88 balls in the company of Inzamam-ul Haq who remained not out on 18. Reuters
