Shooting
The 32-year-old CISF inspector finished fifth with a total of 677.4. Anjali shot the second best, a 100.4 following a series of 10.7, 10.3, 10.0, 9.8, 9.9, 10.7, 10.7, 9.4, 9.9 and 9.0 in the final, but had conceded for a big lead in the preliminary phase to nurse any ambitions of a second medal in the championship. The air rifle silver medallist, Anjali had 198 in prone, 192 in standing and 187 in kneeling for a 577 in the qualifying stage. Lioubov Galkina of Russia, Gaby Buehlmann of Switzerland and Britta Grossecappenberg of Germany were a class apart from the rest of the field, and expectedly swept the medals. The other Indian shooters in the 3-position event, Raj Kumari and Kuheli Gangulee took the joint 18th and 26th positions respectively with 572 and 569 points respectively. Both undid their good work with below par fare in the standing position. Raj Kumari had rounds of 194 in prone, 185 in standing and 193 in kneeling while Kuheli had 197 in prone, 184 in standing and 188 in kneeling positions. Except for Anjali, none of the other 30 Indian shooters have made the final so far in the championship, let alone win a medal. The story was no different in the women's 25-metre sport pistol event, as the Indian shooters struggled to make an impression. Sonia Rana, Sushma Rana and Saroja Kumari had to be content finishing 21st, 22nd and 24th respectively. Shooting for the Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS), Shweta Chaudhary did well to score 557, with 287 in the `precision' round and 270 in the `duelling' session. The results: Women: 50-metre sport rifle 3-Position: 1. Lioubov Galkina (Rus) 686.8 (587); 2. Gaby Buehlmann (Sui) 680.9 (584); 3. Britta Grossecappenberg (Ger) 680.8 (583); 5.
