The 353rd ranked Manisha beat Stefanie Hershfield of the US 6-0, 6-0 in the first qualifying round, and made the main draw with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over another American, Chrissie Seredni. Manisha had not played any tournament, after assisting the national team in the Fed Cup tournament in Guangzhou, China, till she competed in doubles last week with Leanne Baker of New Zealand in the $ 50,000 tournament in Naples, Florida. Manisha and Leanne upset the fourth-seeded Allison Bradshaw of the US and Lisa McShea of Australia 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, before bowing to qualifiers Gisella Dulko of Argentina and Vera Zvonareva of Russia 0-6, 6-7 (4-7) in the quarterfinals.
