The Bangalore Division has won four more shields in the annual awards being given away the Railways. G.Govind Kumar, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer, K.R.Puram and 13 other staff from various branches have bagged individual awards. The shields were handed over by the Divisional Railway Manager, Krishna Kumar, in Chennai. "The shields have been awarded comparing the performance of seven divisions of Southern Railways,'' he said here. Criteria such as performance of mechanical, electrical and other departments were taken into account. The Mysore Division has won the shield for "Best Safety" among stations. The Bangalore Zone had exceeded the revenue collection target for 2001-02, reaching Rs.316 crore against the projected Rs.308 crore, Mr. Krishna Kumar said. Bangalore was the only division to have this distinction, while others did not even meet their targets, he added. The revenue from the passenger division was Rs.271 crore against a target of Rs.265 crore and in the goods division the collection was Rs. 45 crore against the target of Rs.43 crore. Work on the second terminal at Yeshwantpur would be completed by March 2003, with the Railway Ministry sanctioning Rs.6.8 crore for the project in the Budget, he said. Three new trains, Bangalore-Durg, Bangalore-Kannur and Bangalore-Gandhidham would be started from July 1. These trains would be operated from the Yeshwantpur terminal, he added.
