Dalit allegedly beaten to death

CUDDAPAH APRIL 19. A Dalit, Kola Nagarjuna, of Yerraballe Dalitawada in Atlur mandal, vomited blood and died in the Cuddapah Government Hospital on Friday. According to his father-in-law, Yerraballe Gangaiah, he was allegedly beaten up by the Atlur police on a complaint that he had eloped with a Reddy woman of the village. Gangaiah and leaders of several Dalit organisations have lodged complaints with the Collector, Joint Collector, and the Additional Superintendent of Police, on Friday, demanding registering of a case against the Atlur sub-inspector, B. Sriramulu, two constables, a homeguard, Seshaiah and three upper caste persons on charges of abusing on caste lines and beating Nagarajuna to death. Pinnapureddy Narasimha Reddy had lodged a complaint with the police that Nagarajuna had eloped with his daughter, Lakshmi Devi

Some elders brought the couple from Mysore to the police station. Gangaiah alleged that Nagarjuna was severely beaten up.
