Ramadoss writes to PM on Sri Lankan issue

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI April 19 . The PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, has written to the Prime Minister, A. B. Vajpayee, urging him to ``impress upon'' the Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, the need for extending full cooperation to the current peace process.

``The efforts through the Norwegian team offer the most conducive atmosphere to the peace accord, to end the 18-year-old ethnic struggle in Sri Lanka and restore democratic rights for the Tamil minority there,'' he said in the letter.

Dr. Ramadoss said since the Sri Lankan Tamils issue was certain to figure in the discussions between the two leaders when they meet in New Delhi during Ms. Kumaratunga's visit, the present opportunity has to be seized. The request reflected not only the wishes of the Sri Lankan Tamils but also the desire of the people of Tamil Nadu, he said.
