Under the package unveiled by the Revenue Minister, N. Thalavai Sundaram, in the Assembly today, the Government would offer a 40 per cent waiver of the stamp duty on the difference between the guideline value fixed by the department and the value quoted in documents by the buyer. As of now, over 90,000 land documents are pending before the Special Deputy Collectors (SDCs) as there were differences between the guideline value fixed by the Sub-Registrars and the document value claims of the land buyer. In case of differences, the documents were being referred to the SDCs for assessing the market value. This led to delays in land registration and a drop in revenue collections for the Government, the Minister said. Under the Samadhan scheme, the public could get their plots registered by paying 60 per cent of the differential value.
