CPI(M), CPI holding talks on poll strategy

By Our Staff Reporter

KARUR APRIL 19. The CPI(M) and the CPI are holding talks to adopt a common strategy for the Assembly byelections. Addressing the media here today, the CPI(M) State secretary, N. Varadarajan, said the first round of talks was over and the parties would again meet on Monday. The CPI(M) State Executive would be convened next Saturday to identify the constituencies. When the TMC and Dalit organisations announced their strategy, the left parties would hold parleys with them.

The CPI(M), along with the CPI, would undertake a joint Statewide campaign between May 11 and 17 to highlight the economic situation, the Central and State budgets, and communal clashes. The campaign would impress upon the State Government the need for taking efforts to solve local issues.

Mr. Varadarajan found fault with the DMK and the AIADMK for ``turning'' the Assembly into a political platform, especially on the Cauvery issue. The House should discuss only public issues, he urged.
