Union Minister, BJP leaders condemn naxal killings

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR APRIL 19. Condemning the assassination of the BJP Kisan Morcha district convenor, R Balreddy, and the TDP Single window chairman, Rayapu Reddy, in two separate incidents within a span of 12 hours in the district, the Union Minister of State for Home affairs, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, flayed the naxalites for killing innocent people citing some reason or the other.

The Union Minister visited Yellareddypet mandal on Friday to attend the funeral of the BJP leaders. Referring to the naxalites' act of killing people in protest against POTA, he told newsmen that POTA was not introduced to deal only with the People's War Group of naxalites.

The act was designed to curb the various terrorist groups including international terrorist activities and ensure peace in the country, he added.

Ridiculing the killings and destruction of property in the region, he called upon the naxalites to shun violence and join the mainstream of society to participate in the development of the villages.

He suggested the naxalites to surrender before the people of interior villages raised a protest against their destructive acts. The Union Minister condemned the naxalites' act of killing the BJP Kisan Morcha leader who had been striving hard for the development of the upland Yellareddypet, Gambhiraopet and Mustabad mandals by actively participating in the desiltation work of feeder channels and irrigation tanks.

The BJP State president, C. Ramachandra Reddy, flayed the naxalites for killing innocent persons when the Government had initiated peace talks with the naxalites.

He flayed the naxalites for disturbing peace in the region when all political parties were trying to ensure peace talks with the naxalites.

The party legislators, G. Ramakrishna Reddy, T Venkataramana Reddy, the district BJP president, P Sugunakar Rao, the BJP Kisan Morcha State executive committee member, B Jagan Mohan Rao and others participated in the funeral procession. Yellareddypet mandal headquarters observed a bandh in the town in protest against the naxalites' act.

CPI condemns killing

Our Hyderabad Special Correspondent writes: The CPI has criticised the People's War Group for the murder of Ragula Bal Reddy and Rayapu Reddy, both BJP leaders of Karimnagar district.

In a statement, the party's State secretary, Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy, said it was shocking to note that the PWG said it murdered these activists to protest against POTO, as "it is meaningless and foolish to punish and murder a local cadre for the wrong policies of their national leadership. It is the height of irresponsible behaviour.''
