The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance and Taxation, N.L. Narendra Babu, and the Deputy Commissioner (Development), Muddukrishna, told presspersons here on Saturday that the modalities of introducing the pass system were still being worked out. They said the legal and financial aspects of introducing the pass system for motorists were being examined. The passes would help motorists who had to park their vehicles at several places in a day in the course of their work. Apart from ensuring that the motorist was not unduly burdened by paying fees at several places, the passes would earn the much-needed revenue to the BMP. Mr. Narendra Babu said he had been pressing for introduction of passes for several years. The system would be introduced when fresh tenders were called for parking contractors. He urged the public to make suggestions on the pass system so that a uniform model could be adopted throughout the City. A meeting of contractors and BMP officials would be held to sort out the parking issue. Till the new tenders were called and new contractors took over, the BMP would ensure that the existing system continued.
