The incident took place in Naguguda hamlet of Sirpur Utnoor mandal of Adilabad district. According to the police, around 20 armed naxals, including the North Telangana Special Zone Committee secretary, Chandranna alias Pulluri Prasad Rao and Adilabad District Committee secretary, Lalitakka, went to Naguguda village and demanded that they be served food. The Gonds refused to oblige them. The naxals and the villagers argued for over three hours after which the extremists left the village vowing to take revenge. The Gonds then held a meeting a passed a resolution to the effect that henceforth no naxal would be allowed into to the village. A copy of the resolution was passed on to the Adilabad Superintendent of police, Mahesh M. Bhagwat. The Adilabad Additional SP (operations), D.S. Chauhan, the Utnoor DSP, Muralidhar Rao and the ITDA APO, Vaman Rao, visited the village yesterday and held a gram sabha.
