Bopanna, Srinath lose in quarterfinals

NEW DELHI APRIL 20. Second-seeded Rohan Bopanna went down with guns blazing, 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (2-7) in the quarterfinals against 885th-ranked Esteban Carril-Caso of Spain in the $10,000 ITF Futures tennis tournament in Kuwait.

Bopanna had cruised into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over local wild card entrant Musaad Al-Jazzan.

Fifth-seeded Prahlad Srinath also lost in the quarterfinals. Srinath was beaten 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 by 79th-ranked Jasper Smit of the Netherlands, after he had beaten Ivo Klec of Germany 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.

In doubles, Bopanna stayed afloat with Vijay Kannan and the duo stormed into the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Abdullah Al Mekami and Fahed Al-Saad of Saudi Arabia.

However, fourth-seeded Mustafa Ghouse and Srinath lost 7-5, 4-6, 3-6 to Esteban Carril-Caso of Spain and Walter Orth of Germany in the quarterfinals.
