Kirtanes in both finals

Mumbai April 20. The Kirtane cousins will engage themselves in a tussle for the men's singles title of the Gannon Dunkerley Rs, 2,50,000 Khar Gymkhana All-India men's Open tennis championship on Saturday.

While defending champion Nitin brushed aside Punna Vishal, Sandeep, now a coach with the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), defeated the No. 2 seed Vinod Sridhar quite comfortably. The Kirtanes had, earlier in the day, teamed up to beat Intikhab Ali and Mayur Vasant in the doubles.

The results:

Men's singles (semifinals): 1-Nitin Kirtane bt 4-Punna Vishal 6-1, 6-0; Sandeep Kirtane bt Vinod Sridhar 6-1, 6-3.

Men's doubles (semifinals): Nitin Kirtane/Sandeep Kirtane bt Intikhab Ali/Mayur Vasant 7-5, 6-0; Amod Wakalkar/Rishi Sridhar bt Ajay C. D/Yaseer Arafat 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. — Our Special Correspondent
