Swiss Foreign Minister arrives

New Delhi April 21. The Swiss Foreign Minister, Joseph Deiss, arrived here today on a three-day visit for talks with Indian leaders to review bilateral ties and explore prospects of stepping up economic cooperation.

Mr. Deiss, who is on a four-nation visit, which includes Pakistan, Bhutan and Afghanistan, will tomorrow have wide-ranging discussions with the External Affairs Minister, Jaswant Singh, on regional, international and issues of mutual concern.

The progress in the international campaign against terrorism, situation in South Asia and developments in West Asia are expected to figure in the parleys.

He will stress on political support for the stabilisation process in Afghanistan the region, a Swiss Embassy release here said.

It said the visit to the four countries would help provide an overview on the status and prospects of Swiss cooperation with them. Mr. Deiss will be briefed on the programmes of the Swiss Development Cooperation in India.

He will also meet the Swiss business community and the Swiss citizens residing in India — PTI
