TDP charge refuted

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD APRIL 21. The leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, has refuted the allegations of some TDP leaders, including the MLAs from Cuddapah district that the six persons accused in the murder of K. Pratap Reddy, Telugu Yuvata leader of Warangal, were the members of the Congress and more so his followers.

Talking to presspersons, he said curiously the names of the two of the six hired assassins -- Katasani Bayyapu Reddy and Vangala Venkatrami Reddy -- tallied with two of his followers. The similarity in these names was politically exploited by the TDP leaders, Dr.Reddy alleged.

Bayyapu Reddy and Venkatrami Reddy, who were present at the press conference, declared that they were the followers of Dr. Reddy. The two others bearing the same names are in police custody. Let these facts be verified, the CLP leader demanded.

Dr. Reddy said the TDP leaders initially demanded his resignation as he sought protection for Konda Morali, husband of the Shayampet MLA, Konda Surekha, who was arrested in connection with the murder of the Telugu Yuvatha leader. Later, police identified the accused as `hired assassins from Cuddapah' which would imply that Murali was being falsely implicated.

Dr.Reddy said his party leaders had therefore demanded that the investigation into the case be entrusted to the CBI though in the case of Civil Supplies Minister K.Siva Prasada Rao, the CBI inquiry was not allowed to its logical conclusion.
