By Our Special Correspondent
Sanjay was shot dead by the city police on Saturday as attempted to snatch the service revolver of a police officer and escape from custody when he was taken to the airport on Saturday. He had been arrested by the Virugambakkam police on charges of threatening a businessman for extortion. On her arrival, Ms. Sangeetha was questioned by the police, a senior police officer said. Answering the policemen's queries, she denied having gone to Tirupathi as was stated earlier. The police officer said the body would be handed over only to an authorised person. Though Ms. Sangeetha claimed that she was Sanjay's wife, the police would give the body only after her relationship with the gangster was confirmed. The city police have sought the assistance of the Mumbai police in confirming her identity. The police officer said as Sanjay was a gangster, his identity was known only to the Mumbai police. Asked whether any meeting was proposed with top officials of Mumbai police in connection with Sanjay's visit and also the entry of two other persons belonging to the Chota Shakeel gang in October last, the officer said it was not required now. ``These are stray incidents.''
