Muralitharan ruled out of first Test

By P. Subramanyam

London April 21. Sri Lanka arrives in London on Monday without ace off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who has been sidelined for four weeks due to an injury and will not be fit in time for the first Test, according to coach Dav Whatmore.

Muralitharan suffered a slight dislocation and torn ligaments in his left shoulder while fielding against Pakistan in the Sharjah Cup final recently. A specialist in Australia confirmed that he would not need surgery but Whatmore said that the off-spinner required a lengthy spell (rest) away from the game."He will be put in a special brace with a sling for a period of four weeks after which his condition would be re-evaluated,'' said Whatmore.'
