Five youth killed in mishap

KOCHI APRIL 21. Five youth were killed when a jeep in which they were travelling collided head on with a KSRTC bus this morning at Oonukal, near Kothamangalam.

The deceased were identified as Siji (32), Sherry (26), Joemon (25) and Shaji (31) of Chelad and Sunilkumar (28) of Thrikkariyoor.

The deceased were on their way to attend the engagement of one of their friends, the Oonukal police said. Eight others who were injured in the accident have been admitted to Dharmagiri and Baselius hospitals, Kothamangalam.

The accident occurred at 11.10 p.m., at a small curve, not very far from the police station. The limited stop ordinary KSRTC bus was plying on the Kumily-Ernakulam route.

The police and Fire Force personnel led the rescue work. The jeep was completely destroyed in the collision.

Postmortem was conducted on the bodies of the victims at the Kothamangalam Government Hospital and later handed over to the relatives, police said.
