HYDERABAD, April 21. The Minister for Minority Welfare and Municipal Administration and Chairman, A.P. State Haj Committee, N. Md. Farook, announced that the Government would reimburse the Wakf Board Rs. 3.5 crores, which the latter had given for the purpose of building the Haj House, to the Haj Committee. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Haj Committee here on Sunday, Mr. Farook also announced that the Government would announce the new Haj Committee in the next three to four days. He expressed happiness that the entire exercise of sending the pilgrims for Haj had concluded satisfactorily and extended his appreciation to the personnel of the different departments and agencies that had been involved in the entire process. The Minister felt that despite the satisfactory arrangements this year it was necessary to further improve the working of both the Haj Committee and the Wakf Board and said that the Government was actively considering amendments to the Wakf Rent Act in line with the changes made in the Endowments Rent Act, so that the income of the Wakf Board increases. He announced a grant of Rs. 50 lakhs for restoration works to the Mecca Masjid and the `Royal Mosque' at Public Gardens. Officials from the Police, Passport, Immigration and Customs departments were felicitated, as were the officials of the MCH, AP TRANSCO, Water and Sewerage Board, Indian Airlines, Air India, Airport Authority of India, Vysya Bank and others. Vysya Bank had released over 10 million Saudi Riyals for the benefit of the Haj pilgrims. Tanvir Ahmed, Chairman, Central Haj Committee, Syed Yousuf Ali, Government Chief Whip, and Krishna Rao, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, and Secretary, Haj Committee, were among those who spoke.
