Letters to the Editor
Sir, As rightly observed in your Editorial ``Govt. formation in U.P.'' (April 20), a BSP-BJP coalition is the only means to ensure an elected Government in the State. At the same time, the coming together of the so-called upper castes-supported BJP and the Dalit-based BSP should be welcomed and encouraged, as it is likely to foster the much-needed bonhomie among the communities, just as the meeting of non-Congress segments in jails during the Emergency paved the way for the downfall of the Congress regime. The attempt need not be dismissed on the argument that it does not seem to have the makings of an enlightened or lasting bond, as no party or alliance has been exempt from the accusation. Like secularism, opportunistic alliances have become the rule in Indian polity now.
Sathyamurthy,
