Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Enough damage

Sir, — I believe that the perpetrators of the Godhra train burning as well as the carnage that followed are neither Muslims nor Hindus but demons fed on the blood lust of narrow religious dogma.

The perpetrators of the heinous crimes and those who goaded them, those whose duty it was to use their authority and force to stop the rioting and who by their various acts of commission or omission, were responsible for not stopping the carnage, need to be given very early and exemplary punishment.

Religion or collective prayer is a social convenience and not an excuse to get people together for violence. Pandas and mullahs have done enough damage.

Removing Mr. Modi and having another Chief Minister in a BJP Government in Gujarat will not solve the problem of building up trust again between Hindus and Muslims. Nor will bringing in an elected Government of the Congress or any other party or coalition help because all political parties across the board are venal and corrupt.
