Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Logically correct

Sir, — Reference to Don Patrick's questionnaire (April 22). All of Kuldeep Nayyar's findings (April 16) were based on the study of the happenings ever since the RSS took roots in India.

The Sangh Parivar may try to rewrite history by saying that Gandhiji was not shot by its men, but some of us alive at the time of the assassination cannot be hoodwinked.

Now, our Prime Minister may repeat the words of the LTTE leader, Velupillai Prabakaran, that the assassination (of Rajiv Gandhi) was tragic. But he cannot get away with it.

Was it not the Gujarat Government that sent a circular that all Government employees could become members of the RSS? Was that not a preparation for a carnage that happened later? Is the assertion that the Government machinery was a mute spectator to the carnage only a figment of imagination of the National Human Rights Commission? What is Mr. Patrick trying to do? Giving the benefit of doubt to homicidal maniacs just like British jurists asking for strict proof.

The present Government is an offshoot of the assassins of Gandhiji. They already have chosen to appease the murderers of Indira Gandhi. It only remains to induct the LTTE into the NDA Government to complete the full compliment of Gandhi assassins.

S. Charuhasan,
Chennai
