Bogies for jawans

Sir, — I made a trip from Gwalior to Coimbatore on April 14 by Kerala Express. I was shocked to see the train overflowing with jawans. It seems that the Army had granted leave at short notice to them and they, for want of reservations and time, had got into the train.

It was pitiable to see these soldiers travelling in the corridor, near toilets, pleading at times with the TTEs, who treated them with scant respect. Most of them narrated stories of hardship near the border, the extremely harsh conditions, both physical and mental. It was sad to see them being treated in such a manner. I request the Railways to look into the issue and if, possible, attach `Army special bogies' especially in south bound trains such as Kerala Express, the Grand Trunk Express and the Tamil Nadu Express. I also request the common people to help the jawans by providing them at least moral support.

Shriram Raghunathan,
Coimbatore, T.N.
