An indefinite curfew was clamped in the Shahpur police station areas this afternoon after a series of pitched battle between the rival communities in which petrol, acid bombs and stones were freely used at each other. A constable, Nayan Shikari, was critically wounded when a bomb was hurled at him from a rooftop. It was the second attack on police personnel in the last two days after one constable was stabbed to death in Gomtipur locality on Sunday. There were also reports of firing in Shahpur, but was not confirmed by the police, which fired at least 25 rounds but claimed there were no casualties.
