Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, has started a crusade to oust his Gujarat counterpart, Narendra Modi, on grounds which he considers very sacred. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, has joined the bandwagon. But there are clear Constitutional provisions for the appointment of Chief Ministers and their removal. There is no provision anywhere for other Chief Ministers to demand the resignation or removal of any other Chief Minister. Andhra Pradesh experienced suicide waves among its farmers and the naxalite menace has been prevalent for a long time. On these grounds, no other Chief Minister can ask for the ouster of the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister. Similarly, if starvation deaths occur in Kalahandi, no Chief Minister can ask for the head of the Orissa Chief Minister. If every Chief Minister wants to oust his own tribe without reference to Constitutional obligations, we will surely be going back to the days of anarchy and medieval feudal rule. I am not going into the merits of the cases here. I only question the procedure of agitation by fellow Chief Ministers to oust any Chief Minster who they consider is not good.
K. Venkatasubramanian,
