Sir, Reference to A.R. Dasgupta's letter "small change" (April 22). Mr. Dasgupta is confused about the `paise' of those days. There was the pie, one-third of a pice (paisa) and so, one-twelfth of an anna. So, the fare stated in the report "History back on rails" (April 17) should have read ` one rupee, one anna and six pies'. The Hindi plural `paise' for paisa (pice) has caused the confusion, pice being wrongly read as paise.
