Japan kept its slate clean winning all the three matches and topped group `A' with nine points, while India with three points from a win and two defeats bowed out of the race. The highlight of the morning match was a blitz of four goals by Japan's Shinobu Ohno, which included a hat-trick in the 10th, 11th, 20th as well as another goal in the 87th minute. Other goals came through Kanako in the 40th and 76th minutes, Karina Maruyama in the 37th and 78th minutes and Chihro Watanabe in the 38th minute. In a totally one-sided affair, Japan started at full steam right from the kick-off. Dominating the proceeding throughout the game, Japan moved ahead as early as in the 10th minute through Shinobu Ohno off a pass from Chihiro Watanabe. A minute later Ohno increased the lead after receiving a pass from Kanako and completed her hat-trick in the 20th minute of the first half following a free-kick which found the net to put Japan ahead 3-0. Japan, which played like a well-oiled machine added another three goals before the breather and was leading 6-0 at half-time. Karina Maruyama made it 4-0 in the 37th minute off a pass from Kanako. Chihiro Watanabe's left-footer found the net in the 38th minute off a well measured pass from Kanako. Five minutes before the breather Kanako scored her brace and Japan was comfortably placed at 6-0 lead at half-time. After the change over Japan continued to attack and scored through Kanako in the 76th minute off a pass from Yukari Kinga. Karina Maruyama made it 8-0 after taking charge of the ball at the top box. She dribbled past a couple of Indian defenders and placed the ball in the right corner of the net. Shinobu Ohnu completed the tally scoring her fourth goal in the 87th minute to complete the rout by 9-0.
Korea drubs Guam but fails to qualify
Meanwhile, riding on the brilliance of Park Eun Jung's half a dozen goals, Korea crushed Guam 13-0, after leading 7-0 at half-time, to earn full three points in the same group. However, Korea failed to qualify for the semifinals as Japan topped the group. Korea's goals came through Park Eun Jung (6), Han Songi (3), Lee Jang Mi (2), Jang Jeong Hee and Lee Eun Hea.
