** Only two teams have scored more than 313 runs in the fourth innings at this ground - India made 406-4 while chasing 402 in 1976 (still the highest score made in the fourth innings to win a Test match) and Pakistan made 341-9, while chasing 371 in a drawn encounter in 1988. The home team's highest in the fourth innings has been 289, while unsuccessfully chasing a target of 333 against Australia in 1973. ** Harbhajan Singh and Ashish Nehra recorded the first `pair' (ducks in each innings) of their career. With both Srinath and Zaheer Khan also recording a pair earlier during their Test careers, it means Indian tail-enders from eight to 11 have performed this dubious distinction. ** Sourav Ganguly recorded his maiden fifty (75 not out) against the West Indies in his 6th match. He previous highest score was the 42 he made in his first match against this team at Kingston in March 1997. ** India lost its last six wickets for just 13 runs. This was one of India's worst batting displays in Tests. India had lost its last seven wickets for just 18 runs against New Zealand at Christchurch in February 1990, collapsing from 146-3 to 164. On that occasion it was the Kiwi fast bowler Danny Morrison, who took 5-12 in 27 balls, who did the damage. India had also lost wickets in a heap (six wickets for six runs) once again against the Kiwis at Wellington in February 1976. Then it was Richard Hadlee's 7-23 in 8.3 overs, which had India collapsing from 75-3 to 81-9 (Sunil Gavaskar could not bat due an injury). ** Brian Lara (40, when on 12) became the first West Indian and the 10th batsman in Test cricket history to aggregate 4000 runs while batting at number four.
