"The business expectation survey conducted after the Gujarat disturbance (post-Godhra violence) seems to suggest that business sentiment is picking up,'' Suman K. Bery, Director General of the economic think-tank, said. Recent incidents in Gujarat could lead to short term disturbances but was unlikely to have any long term impact, he said speaking on the sidelines of an Indo-Canada business forum organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here. With the U.S. economy showing signs of revival, there were reasons for a guarded optimism, he said despite the provisional data released yesterday by the Government indicating that the growth rate in six core infrastructure sectors had declined to 3 per cent during 2001-02 from over 5 per cent a year earlier.
