E.C. stays transfers

NEW DELHI, April 25. Responding to the DMK's allegation against the AIADMK Government of large-scale transfer of officials in Saidapet and Vaniyambadi which go to the polls on May 31 in violation of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission today asked the Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, to restore the status quo.

The DMK had submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission alleging that 11 officials of the Chennai Corporation and three Block Development Officers of Vaniyambadi were transferred on April 18 by ante-dating the orders on April 16.

The Commission which had sought a report from the State Government in this regard said that the State CEO was being asked to convey to the Chennai Corporation and the district authorities about restoring status quo ante.
