``The visit of the USS Hopper is emblematic of the friendship between the people of the United States and the people of Sri Lanka. I am especially pleased that we are again seeing an American ship visit Colombo after such a long time,'' the U.S. Ambassador, Ashley Wills, said in a release from the U.S. Embassy here. The stopover comes a few weeks after the visit by a top Marines official, Brigadier General Timothy Ghormley, who travelled to Jaffna with the U.S. the Assisitant Secretary of State, Christina Rocca. The general also visited the eastern naval port in Trincomalee.
