Kanwal Sibal is next Foreign Secy.

NEW DELHI APRIL 26. Kanwal Sibal, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, will be the new Foreign Secretary. He would take over from Chokila Iyer on July 1.

Mr. Sibal, a 1966 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, would replace Ms. Iyer who is due for superannuation on June 30, an official release said.

Mr. Sibal, 59, has been in the present post since this month after he moved here from Paris where he served as the Ambassador. Prior to that he was the Ambassador to Egypt between 1995-1998. He earlier served for three years as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy in Washington.
