Tehelka: Jaya Jaitley for SIT probe

By J. Venkatesan

NEW DELHI April 27. The former Samata Party president, Jaya Jaitley has filed an application before the Justice Venkataswami Commission seeking a probe by a special investigation team (SIT) into the veracity of the information furnished by Annirudha Bahal of Tehelka portal about equipment and software used for recording and editing of tapes.

In her application Ms. Jaitley said that in order to make an effective cross-examination of Mr. Bahal, she conducted an investigation of the names and addresses of the persons listed by him.

It was found on spot verification that these shops either did not exist or did not deal with the items specified by Mr. Bahal in his affidavit.

She, therefore, requested the Commission to direct the SIT to investigate/ascertain the addresses as printed in the bills and money receipts and whether these shops deal with the items mentioned in the bills and whether any such product was purchased from the said shops by the Tehelka portal/Buffalo Networks and whether the transactions reflected in the bills and receipts were genuine.
