New CII president

NEW DELHI APRIL 27. The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MindTree Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Ashok Soota, today took over as the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Similarly, Anand Mahindra, vice-chairman and managing director of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., assumed charge as vice-president of the industry body.

Mr. Soota is the first CII chief from the services and IT sector. An electrical engineer with an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines, he started his career with the Shriram Group of Industries in 1965 and rose to be the president of Wipro Infotech.

Mr. Soota, who co-founded MindTree Consulting Pvt. Ltd. in 1999, succeeds Sanjiv Goenka under whom he worked as vice-president.

Mr. Mahindra is an MBA from the Harvard Business School, Boston Massachusetts.

After starting his career as an executive assistant in Mahindra Ugine Steel Company Ltd. in 1981, he moved up the ladder to become the president and deputy managing director of the company in 1989.
