The trekkers who would be divided into batches of 125 to 150 would cover 90 km and pass through staging camps at Adhigaratty, Chamraj, Yedakkadu, Nanjanad and Udhagamandalam. The base camp would be at the CSI Engineering College, Ketti. The first batch would be flagged off by the Nilgiris Collector, Supriya Sahu. Educational tours to tea factories, the Radio Astronomy Centre and the Tribal Research Centre and a visit to the Madras Regimental Centre at Wellington would form part of the programme during which a visit by the NCC Director-General, Lt. Gen. B.K. Boppana, was likely.
