Wage revision for match workers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM APRIL 27. The Government has issued a notification proposing a revision in the minimum wages for the workers in the match industry.

Accordingly, the basic wages for various types of jobs in the match industry, with the workload given in the brackets, are as given below:

Cross cutting: Rs. 66.59 (1.5 cubic metre), debarking: Rs. 59.59 (1.5 cubic metre), peeling driver: Rs. 62.92, peeling helper: Rs. 59.25, chopping operator: Rs. 62.92, leveling: Rs. 59.25, `pattamattal': Rs. 59.25, veneer cutting: Rs. 63.67, boiler operator: Rs. 63.67, splint tray setting: Rs. 2.67 per tray (22 trays), veneer outer tray setting: Rs. 3.47 per tray (17 trays), veneer inner tray setting: Rs. 4.48 per tray (13 trays), veneer bottom piece tray setting: Rs. 3.27 per tray (18 trays), veneer outer bundling: Rs. 14.65 per 100 bundles (400 bundles), veneer inner bundling: Rs. 13.08 per 100 bundles (450 bundles), veneer bottom piece bundling: Rs. 10.70 per 100 bundles (550 bundles).

The proposed monthly salaries are: Rs. 1,734 for foreman, chemist, blacksmith and manager, Rs. 1,636 for clerk, accountant and typist and Rs. 1,542 for peon and watchman.

For those getting their pay in the form of monthly salaries, the dearness allowance comes to Rs. 1.69 for each point above 800 points.
