Referendum move upheld

ISLAMABAD APRIL 27. The Pakistan Supreme Court today held as legal the planned referendum on April 30 by President Pervez Musharraf to extend his term in office by five years.

The nine-member Bench, in an order issued by Chief Justice Riaz Sheikh, said that Gen. Musharraf had called for the referendum in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the court in its ruling on the 1999 coup. (Details under International section)
