Naidu keeps the cards close to his chest

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI APRIL 27. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party leader, Chandrababu Naidu, said here today that his party's stand vis-a-vis the censure motion against the Vajpayee Government over the Gujarat issue would be discussed ``threadbare'' at the TDP's politburo and Parliamentary Party meetings tomorrow in Hyderabad. When mediapersons insisted on a more specific reply, he asked whether it would be wise to say anything when the party was going for a full-scale discussion. Contrary to indications that he would announce the party's stand today, Mr. Naidu kept the cards close to his chest and said that after all there was still a lot of time, two full days to go before the voting in the Lok Sabha. ``Let us see'' was his reply when mediapersons persisted for a reply indicating the way in which the wind would blow. ``We will take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time,'' was all he would say.

He was, however, firm that the Narendra Modi Government in Gujarat must go and that there must be a debate in Parliament on the Gujarat situation under whatever rule.
