No EU demarche, says India

New Delhi April 27. The Government today denied a report that the European Union (EU) had given a demarche to India's Ambassador in Madrid earlier this week ``to voice concern over the Gujarat violence''.

``The report (published in a leading English daily) is inacurrate. No such demarche has been made out to our ambassador in Madrid,'' the External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson, Nirupama Rao, said. The denial comes close on the heels of remarks on the Gujarat situation by visiting Ministers from Finland, Canada and Switzerland and reports on internal assessments on the Gujarat situation believed to have been made by the EU and some other countries. — PTI
