Kanchi Acharya meets Vajpayee

New Delhi April 27. Continuing his peace moves on the Ayodhya issue, the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswati, tonight met the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee.

He is believed to have discussed, among other things his deliberations with local Muslim leaders in Ayodhya last night. The seer arrived here today after a two-day visit to the temple town.

Earlier in the day, he told reporters that there was a frank exchange of views during the meeting with the Muslim leaders and he had received ``encouraging response'' for creating a conducive atmosphere for evolving a peaceful solution.Sharing the dais with the seer at a religious function here, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad vice-president, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, said the Acharya had several discussions with `sants' in the temple town to chalk out the future course of action on the Ram temple construction. The Sankaracharya, who had made an unsuccessful bid to resolve the Ayodhya issue through a compromise formula between the Hindu and the Muslim religious leaders last month, reached Ayodhya on Thursday amid speculation of another effort on his part to find a solution to the issue. — PTI, UNI
