Letters to the Editor
Sir, The nation is outraged with the Modi Government for its alleged role in the Gujarat genocide. All fact-finding mission reports have exposed the Gujarat Government. The only discordant note is being struck by the Sangh Parivar and its sympathisers. They seem to suggest that those who did not respond to the Godhra carnage with equal indignation have committed the greatest crime against humanity far worse than raping of women, forcing five-year olds to drink petrol and setting them on fire, ripping open the womb of a killed woman and slashing the foetus and similar acts of barbarity. We have a lesson to learn from France, the entire polity of which closed ranks and rallied behind Jacques Chirac to save the nation from the xenophobic and fascist-leaning Jean-Marie Le Pen. In stark contrast is our political scenario where all the NDA allies have closed ranks and rallied behind the Vajpayee Government, forgetting their secular pretensions, just for the sake of power. T.N. Menon, Secunderabad
