Letters to the Editor
Sir, __ This is with reference to Kavery Nambisan's ``Physician, heal thyself'' (April 7). The author has emphasised that the reason for ill-health is the medical fraternity which consists of self-seeking, money-minded, non-caring, egoistic devils. The article seems to reflect the author's personal opinion on many issues with no thought to either science or social issues. She has gone widely off the mark and maligned the profession as a whole. Indulging in sensationalism, she has abused physicians and portrayed them as Shylocks waiting for their pound of flesh. We physicians do not claim to be either demi-gods or healers of all ills. The modern doctors are professionals, trying to do their work scientifically. If the author feels that the medical fraternity lacks compassion, it is because she has either had a very painful experience or has not had the pleasure of interacting with the better majority of the fraternity. Dr. K. Sridhar, Chennai
