Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Lessons from history

Sir, — Today we read media reports of opinions by some political analysts and individuals resenting the drawing of a parallel to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the exodus of Kashmiri Pundits and Hindus persecuted in Bangladesh.

Their opinions sound as if these incidents cancel out the massacre in Gujarat. The present holocaust adds up to the past and if the present is not condemned just because the past was neglected, it only results in a grave situation in the future. Human rights violation in any part of the world has global implications. It is time everyone learnt a lesson from history.

K.R. Manohara,

Chitradurga, Karnataka
